+++ FOOT UPDATE +++

Well, as of this morning, I no longer have my foot in a big padded bandage...

But I haven't exactly gone back to the freedom of having nothing on my foot at all...

No, I now have a cast from knee to toes!

So it almost seems that every time I go back to hospital I come out in a worse state than before!

But no, that isn't really the case :) For the past week I've been 'non-weight-bearing', which has been *very* hard work for my left leg and for my arms and shoulders. This is a 'walking cast', which means that as I'm ready, I can start to put a little bit of weight on it, which will be less tiring and willl enable me to do more. I have to be careful though, because the doctor I saw today is a bit concerned at how swollen the foot still is, so I've been given very strict instructions to rest with my foot elevated as much as possible. And I've promised to comply!

The Family are being wonderful, my own poor The Doctor is rushing around doing everything - his busy full-time job, the housework, cooking, leading House Group.... The Children are doing all they can to help, too, bless them. I'm also very fortunate to have good friends around me who are very willing to give The Children lifts to school, take me to my hospital appointments, and even help out with a meal here and there. We're so grateful for their help and support! And thank you to you, dear blog friends, for your kind and supportive comments, texts, tweets and even cards and gifts - it means a lot to me, thank you so much xx

By the way, do you like the purple cast? I was offered a range of colours, but thought the blue or red might look too much like I supported particular football teams, and fluorescent yellow wasn't really 'me'.... I like this purple, though! :)

Purple is very regal ...
Looks as though I may be seeing you at half-term?

How nice to be able to choose your own colour....I think purple would have been my choice as well. I quite like Helena's idea of washi tape as well.
Carry on taking it easy though.

Just be careful that with a purple cast you don't get sued by Cadbury's !!!

Now if I was having a cast it would definitely be a fabulous purple one like yours. I have just noticed Helena's comment about washi tape! genius!!! Do you think you could stop going to the hospital for a while?

Very stylish, but I'm hoping to see photos of it with some embellishments. It doesn't look like a scrapbooker's cast yet ;-)
Hope it continues to heal, I am sure the novelty of having to lay around all day doing nothing is starting to wear off now.

Purple is perfect a right royal colour just right for someone who sits and gives out the order what other colour would command so much respect lol
Glad it is progress and do hope the swelling goes down quickly

Glad you having lots of support and kindness, Mel, in all this painful stuff. And I think purple is striking: the colour of bishops and kings. Perfect for being in command of all you survey.:) Hoping you get some positive improvement very soon.

It's fab how friends appear when we're in trouble and how they rally round and help.
I found the same when I hurt my back so much, a few years ago. It was comforting and rather humbling, to have everyone so kind. DH has always been good, but he was just amazing; DS was so helpful and willing to do stuff for me; the next-door neighbour very kindly ran a taxi service for me, taking me back & forth to the osteopath appointments, until I could drive myself; friends dropped in and did things to help - one did my cleaning, another my laundry!
There is always a positive side, even to something so upsetting as an injury.
And a purple plaster cast is quite positive too! Glad it means you can start to gain a bit more mobility - but do be careful to rest that foot as you should do; you don't want to end up bed-bound or in hospital!
Get well soon! XX

I told Mr M about your cast and he nodded sagely. He was off work for three months with a bi-lateral sprain. It's tendons you see, they don't have a great blood supply so they are slow to heal. Follow instructions and take your time. Don't worry about it cos there's lots of us out here can do that for you. You'll have to write that novel while you are stuck there - now that's a good idea!

Purple is 'on trend' apparently (saying fashionable just isn't fashionable anymore Dahling!).
Hope your back on both your feet soon.

What I want to know is, can you tape it up with plastic and have a shower now?

I am so pleased that you can start to manage a little weight bearing but I am worried that the swelling is still noticeable - keep your spirits up, focus on what you can do and just think, you can use this time to invent a ground breaking way to transport cups of tea while using crutches .... it'll make you a billionaire I am sure!

How was the show? Did you get a good seat?

Clara went with purple, too! She used silver and gold pens to have her friends write on them.

Goodness, it doesn't seem to get better, does it? I do like the purple cast, though, and I hope you're able to get around a bit more easily very soon.

Oh goodness Mel, it is certainly turning into a saga for you. Hooray for helpful husbands, children and friends. I would have gone for purple too :o)

Yep...purple was the way to go!! Yay for 'real' friends...you do find out who they are when you need them! Remember to keep a metal coathanger handy for when you get an itch under that cast...& lots of signatures on it for posterity too!! :D

I like the idea of decorating it - purple is pretty tho.

I'd be happy to send a card - if only I had an address.... :hint hint:

Yeah for good friends, helpful family and a walking cast, ugh on swelling, hope you get a shower and to craft soon.

I love the purple cast and it's good that you can get a bit more mobile with it, I'm glad everyone is pulling together in your time of crisis!

I think the purple cast looks great and isn't purple one of "the" colours this season? It's nice that you can be a wee bit more mobile now - but not too much ok.
