You think you'll never forget, but all too soon the memories fade and if you're not careful they can disappear altogether! I know we were living in Leeds at the time because I remember the layout of the house. It must have been 1st December 2002, then. The Boy would have been very nearly 3, and The Girl (as she was then), 7 months old, would have been having one of her brief naps! I know it was 1st December because that's The Doctor's birthday. He was busy working upstairs in the corner of the bedroom that served as his study at the time. I asked The Boy to help me to make a special cake - a birthday cake - a surprise for Daddy. He was delighted at the idea, and happily weighed, sifted and stirred with me. And then, before I could stop him, he shouted up the stairs:
Daddy, we're making you a birthday cake. It's a surprise!

Never EVER trust a 3 year old with a surprise. Mine can never wait until thew birthday to give a crd she's made - it is always hand delivered immediately
lol, fab story, fab page :-)
And I'm sure the words brought a big smile to The Doctor's face!!!!
Great story and I love the layout, especially the lettering :)
Brilliant! A fab story and a wonderful scrapbook page. I like the misty bits and the title is lovely :D
:o)!!! Oh, so cute! Don't you just love the excitement of a child with a secret? And I love your layout documenting this story too.
For the record: I have a really hard time keeping a surprise a secret myself! ;o)
So funny!!! All you can do at that point is put your hand in your heads and laugh.

I love it he did say it's a surprise so I hope daddy (The Doctor) was suitably 'surprised' when he saw it
this is such a great story and so typical that a child needs to share the excitement, even if it does slightly spoil the surprise, gotta love the enthusiasm!
That reminds me about your cousin (S) telling your grandad she was going to his surprise 70th birthday party.
The Mother
Ha - fab story - and oh so typical of a child wanting everyone to share in the excitement!
Merry Christmas ♥
Love it! Such a good thing when we Journal these memories so we can use them as blackmailing power when the time comes..........what? you don't save them for that?.....oh....ok.
What a great story & the perfect photo to go with your layout! Reminds me of when my Mama sent my sister to the store to pick out a dress for me for a birthday gift. When she got home, I asked her what she bought me, and she said, "a dress." My Mama was so mad! LOL
A very Merry Christmas to you!
Ha ha ha, what a great story and a lovely layout
Out of the mouths of babes - love the story and the layout. Sounds like something my kids would have said back in the day. By the way - my DH's birthday is also December 1st!
That's a classic! It definitely needed a page. Many thanks for your support and contributions throughout the year. Much appreciated and a Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Love it Mel..the story and the LO!

lol what a perfect three year old story, TFS, Mel!
A great story and a lovely layout. I am sure the Doctor enjoyed the surprise! And such innocence on the part of your son.
Have a wonderful Christmas.
Awww, kids always give the game away. What a great story to tell and scrapbook. Wishing you a very merry christmas and a bright new year.
Aaawwww bless him
Ours have done the same sort of thing - on several occasions!
Great story Mel, and I am so glad you have it recorded in an album!
Priceless. Reminds me of the boy who lived over the road. My Mom phoned his house and he answered. "Is your mother there?" said my Mom. "I'll just go and ask her." was the reply!
So cute! Love your story and layout. I'm sure the Doctor enjoyed it all the more for the "surprise" Happy Christmas Mel.
Oh lovely! Three-year-olds don't understand secrets (or hide-and-seek - my gt niece always hides behind the door and giggles loudly!).
How nice though. I do hope Daddy was "surprised" by his cake?
My mum used to tell this story: She went to her mother and said, "Mummy, may I have 10 shillings, please?". Her mother - probably caught at a busy time of day - said "Go and ask Daddy.".... so off she went to her dad. "Daddy, may I have 10 shillings please?"
"Now then, what does a little girl like you want with 10 whole shillings?"
"I want to buy you a pair of slippers, as a surprise for your birthday."
She got her 10 shillings - and my grandfather was wonderfully surprised to receive a lovely pair of slippers for his (23rd December!) birthday!.
Thanks Mel, for sharing a fab story - and stirring up a lovely memory for me too. x
Oh, Mel. What a great story! And you're so right, the stories disappear if you don't get them down. Love that you have it all recorded so beautifully.
Oh yes my 3yr old ran in and told Daddy what we'd just bought for a present... Great story and page!
Oh that a wonderful story - so glad you scrapped it too. Merry Christmas.
Isn't it wonderful that we have such a wonderful place to record these memories. I love your LO Mel.
Love it! Super story and a great page to go with it :o)
