Autumn

I interrupt the series of Pretty Paper Party posts not because I've run out of layouts to share (I made 10 yesterday alone, so I have plenty of blog fodder!!) but because I've been wanting to take part in some of Kirsty's challenges, and I did manage to get a photo for the first one on the list :) I'd like to say that I did the first one first because I am logical and methodical and plan to work through the whole lot in order, but of course the truth is that it seemed the quickest and easiest.... As it turns out, though, several of the layouts I've been making for Shimelle's party actually meet criteria for Kirsty's challenges too, result! I'll be sure to point them out as I post them :)

Anyway, to get back to the challenge in question: here's a photo of autumn. To me, autumn means falling leaves; reds, oranges and yellows (and browns); cold clear days - but also rain and wind; going back to school; and quite a bit more really, which is impressive for one little 6-lettered word! Here's a shot I took on Thursday by setting the focal point then holding the camera low and hoping for the best:

Soggy fallen leaves :) It turned out quite well considering - just as well, really, since pausing to take it nearly made me late for work!!

So what does autumn mean to you? The things on my list? Or something else?

Definitely the things on your list, the colours particularly I love, I also love strutting through fallen leaves.
This photo is very impressive, must go try that myself

Hi Mel
Been so long since I dropped by. My Blogging has been a little lazy and also my blog reading. gorgeous autumn photo, love all the colours. It is winter here and we are having a thunder storm tonight.

Autumn means cooler weather, Sunday afternoons watching football, and decorative pumpkins. We do get some falling leaves, but not too much color here.

Autumn means falling leaves & lots of apples to me.
We live in apple producing country.
Oh, and Thanksgiving foods like pumpkin pie & turkey with stuffing & cranberries & fresh apple cider.

Fun leaf picture, Mel!
I picked up some leaves from the maple tree outside our house. I put them in water and actually did a drawing of them - it worked out pretty well. Maybe I should take a photo and post that?!

Autumn definitely means beautiful colours on the trees, shortly followed by lovely coloured leaves all over the back garden!
It also marks the time of the annual fight over the central heating thermostat, I like it warm, husband likes to just wear a thicker sweater if he feels chilly!

To me there is a smell of Autumn that I can detect even with a sense of smell that has been torn apart by a virus. It has a hint of woodsmoke and wet leaves bound by a frosty cold edge. I also love the moment when I draw the curtains in my front room. I pause and look out onto the street and see windblown people scurrying home. I close the curtains and my home is warm and secure - love it!

That is a great shot and worth being late for IMHO =-)

The smell definitely. Someone was having a bonfire the day before yesterday and it was just lovely to smell that on my way home.

Autumn for me is the same as your list but I also love the smell of bonfires in the autumn. The colours of autumn are amazing and I love the long, dark nights :)

We don't get quite so much in the way of leaf colour here, which is a pity as it's one of the things I love about Autumn..great pic!

Autumn is usually a respite after a long hot summer. It means many of the same things to me as to you, but for us it also includes Easter holidays and the change in what I'm cooking.

It's nice to take a break from the scrapbooking posts, I think. I've got a few art journal pages I'll be mixing in soon.
For me, autumn means pumpkins and warm days.

My list would be similar to yours, with a few additions. Soups, stews and hotpot added to the menu. That certain smell in the air and the change from bare feet to socks and woolly tights!

The picture turned out really good. Autumn for me is blue, blue skies, crisp air, apples the way they were meant to be, the turning of the leaves and the fact that it gets dark too early now.
