We're here!

Jetlagged still, slightly bewildered still, excited still :) The journey was loooooong and quite stressful at times (more details of that in a later post!) but we arrived at nearly midnight on 1st August (which was 8 the next morning according to our body clocks....) The house is lovely, the weather is *hot*, The Doctor is enjoying his work, and we're having a good time :)

Here are just a few pics to give you a taste of it so far:

Our first glimpse of LA - the plane wouldn't slow down for me to take the photo, hence the blur!

Food shopping....

Rehydrating......

And this next pic shows the highlight of my day, the thing I was desperately hoping to see!

Are you currently thinking 'Um.... So happy for you Mel, but they're just flowers, however pretty they might be!'? Shall we zoom in a bit?

Got it yet? One more zoom:

Yay, hummingbirds! They don't slow down for photos either lol!

I'm pleased with this one though:

And this is my favourite of all:

Finally, this is for Deb:

We're still settling in, catching up with ourselves and finding our feet, but I wanted to let you all know we're here safely :) More news soon! xx

Glad you made it out here. Hummingbirds are lovely...
Also, I LOVE the Huntington and it's gardens. Welcome to Southern California. Also, good choice--Trader Joe's is wonderful. I also recommend 'Whole Foods.'

Yay glad you're settling in. I have photos similar to your first, leaving NYC. Would make a good texture don'tcha think, with a very low opacity?
Awesome hummingbirds.

So glad you all arrived here safe and sound and are settling in. I think that first photo is probably very evocative of how you must have felt landing in LA! LOVE the hummingbird photos... you did a GREAT job capturing the little ones!

Thanks for letting us know you are safely on American soil :) Love Trader Joe's, was just there yesterday. Awesome final pics of the hummingbird! I just checked the 10 day forecast for LA 77-82 for highs, is that really considered hot for ya'll or were you referring to all the "hot" bodies in LA lol

Fantastic photos of Humming birds. I like the jet stream effect in the 'refuse to slow down' photo too

Yay!!! I've been smiling to myself these past couple of days knowing that you are in the same time zone as me! :o)

LOVE the tortoise photo, thank you very much, and the hummingbird shots are cool too. I guess I didn't realize that you don't have hummingbirds in the UK. Is that right? They are certainly plentiful here.

Hoory for us, Mel. I'm going to be giving you a real live hug two weeks from tomorrow!!! Carrie and I are so excited. :o)!!!

Have fun, and call on me if you need anything! xo

Waving from Ohio!! Such wonderful hummingbird shots! My parents had a feeder outside of our lake house and I sat on the deck really still one afternoon, camera aimed at the feeder and got some very blurry shots. My camera was old with a very slow shutter speed so that made me sad. Your photos are fabulous. I did get several good clear shots of the female hummingbird, though... she was tired or something... she would actually sit (still) on the feeder for a few seconds at a time before humming away... no hummingbirds where you are??

More than relieved to know you have made it! Do you know what is really obvious as soon as I saw this post? The colour. It never occurred to me before now, the UK colours seem far more muted - the sunshine does make a difference!

Looking forward to many updates here on the blog :-)

YAY! yes, hummingbirds wait for no camera, but if you have a high shutter speed, you can catch them as you have done here so beautifully =-)

BTW: that pic of the lights of LA?? That is pretty much the pace of most folks around here! ;) I'll see you SOON!
