10 highlights of our trip so far :)

In chronological order:

1. Hummingbirds. Oh boy. Hoping to get a feeder today so we can entice them into the garden of the place we're staying.

2. Insect life. I can't get over how vibrant and large the dragonflies are! And I've never seen a wild praying mantis before.

3. Trying new foods, such as an ice cream sandwich...

...and my first ever churro!

4. Cupcake stores. Especially this one, called 'Dots Cupcakes'. Yum :)

The first time we went we tried Mostess (double chocolate - The Children had these), Chocolate Vanilla (chocolate cake with vanilla frosting - The Doctor's choice) and Fleur de Sel (chocolate cake, chocolate frosting, a swirl of caramel and a sprinkling of salt - mine, yum!)

We went back on my birthday and picked up a candle to go with the cakes:

This time The Boy chose Chocolate Mint, The Tomboy had Marble Swirl, and I picked up two Black Forest, a Chocolate Toffee and an Apple Pie to share with The Doctor. (I should maybe explain that we buy the mini cupcakes rather than the full-size ones!)

 5. Disneyland. Fuller details of this will definitely follow!

6. At Disneyland: The Tomboy battling Darth Vader in the Jedi Training Academy :)

7. At Disneyland: The Star Tours ride. It was *amazing!* So good, we went on it twice (and were lucky enough that it was different each time).

8. Meeting The Creative Beast :) More details of this to follow, too!

9. My birthday :) Thank you for all your sweet messages yesterday, I really appreciate it! I got a few cards - wonder who the one on the left could be from? Maybe that turtle could be a clue?! ;)

My Jo Totes camera bag from The Doctor is now official! (Actually I've had it since we travelled out here!)

Got this little PoGo printer from The Mother :) I'm looking forward to trying it out properly to print some mini shots so I can fill in my travel journal as I go along. (Edited to say - I printed my first batch last night, and they're just right for a mini album like this, yay!)

The Children got me a new Lego Wii game, yay! (Forgot to rotate the photo before uploading, oops!)

10. Michael's. *sigh!* I saved this to do on my birthday, because I knew The Children were more likely to be patient with me if I told them it was my birthday treat! Plus, The Parents-In-Law very kindly gave me some spending money for my gift, and I knew where I wanted to spend it ;)

Yes, this was a very restrained shopping trip as it turned out! But think of this particular trip as more of a 'recce'. I shall be going back to use my other discount coupon (couldn't use them both on the same day, you see) and I know just which parts of the store I shall be focussing on next time!

So there we go :) So many exciting experiences! And more to come - wow, I can't believe how lucky I am to be here, doing this :)

This post was brought to you by Shimelle's '10 on the 10th'

PS I had some time last night to read your recent blog posts, but unfortunately Blogger was very inconsistent about whether or not it would let me comment :( It was so good to read about all you've been doing lately though! Hope to be able to comment again soon xx

I haven't been online for ages and had to come and see how you're getting on :) Belated Happy Birthday wishes :) :) I love that you got one of the Jo Tote bags, I ordered one a week ago - same style but in bronze. Hope you're enjoying yours - I bet you'll get plenty of use out of it while you're in the States :) xxx

that bag is gorgeous!!! love it! looks like you are having an amazing time, I'm so pleased for you! Isn't the POGO fab? We had such fun printing our photos and putting them into the journal. It is definitely more of a journal than a mini scrapbook, but I got The Boy to fill out some days and it was so nice to see his perspective too. Gosh I wish I was in LA too! Have a lovely time :)

And I bet you'll have (at least) ten more before you are done! It's great to see you looking relaxed and happy and enjoying your trip. But remember - don't spend everything in Michaels , save some for Target!!

:o)!!! Yay! SOOOOOOO fun to see your list of 10 things you are loving about being in the US, Mel. I'm just so excited for you, and I love that you are soaking it all in.

I showed Doug this post and we both laughed about the ice cream sandwich. Funny the little things we take for granted here that are so new to those from other countries.

Happy Belated Birthday!!!

Love seeing your firsts listed along with your first birthday in America treasures. All those things we take for granted because they're just around the corner or right here in our backyard. Thanks for those reminders to appreciate the small stuff as well as the great. xx

Too funny, Baby Boy just asked me who ate the last ice cream sandwich as he stood staring in the freezer. I said "Mel" which totally confused him. It looks like you are having a wonderful time. I hope your birthday was totally glorious!

Looks like such a fun trip! Beware if you get a hummingbird feeder, the little buggers will fight over it and let you know when it is empty!
