Project Declutter: Week 3 (and another update)

Still going strong with my decluttering project! :) Let's see how week 3 went:

Sunday 15th May

Sorted my sock drawer. However lovely the patterns on them are, if the elastic's gone and/or the socks are full of holes, they're not worth keeping. Old and uncomfortable underwear can go in the bin, too.

Also went through the Craft Stamper magazines I bought yesterday. This wasn't quite as successful as previous magazine culls, but I turned 7 mags into a pile of pages the thickness of just 2...

Monday 16th May

Got rid of the Bible reading notes. It's a nice idea that I might refer to them again one day, but I've been collecting them for several years and never have referred back to them, so into recycling they go!

Tuesday 17th May

I wasn't sure I'd manage anything today, what with the trip to London, but when I couldn't get to sleep last night I looked through a few old Simply Cards & Papercrafts magazines - and since I finished after midnight, I reckon I can count that stack of pages for today! Yay!

Wednesday 18th May

Back from London at 10pm - but I still managed to get rid of something! Poor old pyjama trousers, I've loved you and you've been so comfortable, but now you're falling apart so it's time to say goodbye...

Thursday 19th May

Does it count as decluttering if I'm replacing something? Well - seeing as I make the rules for this project, and referring back to my original definition of clutter as 'something that bothers me', I reckon it can count! The old loo brushes were definitely bothering me. The new ones don't. I may not pull the 'replacement' trick too often, but today I'm tired and frankly this will do...

Friday 20th May

Started to tackle The Cupboard Under The Stairs! There were coats in there that I'd forgotten about - outgrown or just unwanted, they can go to the charity shop with a few bags, caps and bits and bobs. I think we might find Narnia at the back of this cupboard - but I've got a long way to go yet!

Did a bit of the old favourite, too - tearing pages out of craft magazines (mainly Cardmaking & Papercraft).

Saturday 21st May

More magazines (Papercraft Inspirations, Creative Cardmaking and Complete Cardmaking).

I also chucked out some of The Boy's outgrown boxer shorts and some socks beyond repair while folding and sorting the clean washing.

Another successful week! I feel well chuffed at the amount of clutter I've cleared already, and still full of enthusiasm for continuing on :)

Right, and the update. OK, here's the thing. I haven't forgotten the whole Blogging Without Obligation thing, but (just like the clutter) being so far behind with your blogs is bothering me. Somehow I never seem able to get back on top of my blog reading! And I miss you :( So, this week, my Project 365 photos will post as usual, but (unless anything crops up) I don't plan to write any other posts. Just for this week. Instead, I'll spend that time trying to read and catch up a bit. I don't think I *can* read every missed post now, so I just shan't try - but I shall try to get round to your blogs, comment where I can, and feel like I've caught up some, in the hope that I can then get back into a more regular routine of reading and commenting on your new posts. It may not work, but I figure it's worth a try! xx

Well done on the decluttering - we collect old clothing etc at my sons kickboxing club. It doesn't matter if it is holey, buttons cut off (as a crafter some things have to be reused!)even odd socks go in. We collected a tonne and a half last time and the club got over £600 which goes towards helping pay for travelling to competitions etc.

Well, quite frankly Mel I'm super impressed at how many magazines you have.... and also extremely inspired to throw out half of my house now ;)

Well done Mel - an achievement for every day - though I'm amazed at home many mags you have to rip pages out of ... I haven't checked, but are you sure you haven't just included the same pile of mags twice ... ;-)

Good job at the decluttering Mel! I need to take some initiative in getting rid of magazines department. Typically I don't purchase them anymore, but every now and then hubby comes home with a stack from work... they certainly clutter up the living room!

You're doing really well with the decluttering Mel, you might just inspire me to start mine again. My problem is that our local tip has closed for refitting and I really need to declutter the garage which will take a number of trips to the tip! xx

Glad to see you're still going strong.....and can see, like me, you're a bit of a craft magazine addict.

So glad Harry wasn't trying to fit in the Cupboard under the Stairs with all those extra coats & things! LOL Great, great job on the decluttering. I'm hoping to sort through all my dresser drawers this week (so there, now I've written it down and must do it!).

I have a huge pile of craft magazines! I such a hoarder and I have been given lots by other people but they do take up soooo much room. I sorted out the garage with the family and then the carwas filled with stuff for the tip and we recycled lots of games etc to the 2nd hand shop... they didn't want the booster seats tho! So i have done well with sorting out and decluttering this week. Well done toyou xxx

WTG Mel, you inspire me. I'm going to try and get rid of stuff every day this week. I know the closets definitely have clothes etc in them that either don't fit anymore or we don't use anymore. And as for magazines I can definitely work at that every day.

Wow! Your decluttering is going great. Thats one of my summer break tasks...declutter a few rooms in the house and hopefully the garage.

You're doing well with the decluttering. Just remember my offer to look after all your craft stuff at my house - it'll only cost you a few buttons or a bit of bling each month!!! x

Oh, and Jim Jams? I promise you that she has THAT many magazines! :)

Well done with all the de-cluttering. A bit at a time and you get there. ~x~

The decluttering is going well, I'm impressed! I know how it feels to let the blog reading get out of hand, so I wouldn't let it worry you. At least we know you're trying. :D

I bet your feeling so free and light-hearted with all the decluttering you've been doing. I'm so happy for you! You go girl!!!

Love your "Proper Meal" documentation. What a great thing to tell about yourself. Something telling for your children to have about you.

Great job. What do you do with the pages you keep from the magazine. I keep meaning to decorate a specific folder for mine - ight be a summer holiday sort of project

Gosh Mel, that's a lot of de-cluttering! I really should follow your example with the magazines - there is a pile of them in my studio, which really need sorting out. After all, I don't read them, so they should go (but I would like to "do a Mel" on them first and take out any super-nice projects, to keep in a folder).
Well done to you, for all the clutter clearing. Keep up the good work. I can't report much in the way of success this week, though I have tidied up a pile of linens that were cluttering the corner of my bedroom. They are now in a vacuum storage bag, waiting to be lifted to the top of the wardrobe. Cant throw them out though, or we would have nothing for visitors!

I've got very behind on blog reading and commenting - esp. the comments, as I often read a post, but am too tired to comment. Must start again this week and do my best!

Have a good week (as I'm commenting on Monday!).

I find it very, very hard to throw out magazines. Actually, I find it impossible, so I think you are doing brilliantly!

Now, socks, I really need to do something about those..

That is quite a bit of decluttering! I just went through the boys' closet & have a big bag of outgrown stuff for Goodwill.

Of course I will also be shopping there for stuff for the boys to wear so I suppose it is more of a replacement thing, but I will be getting less stuff.

That is an awesome amount of de-cluttering - well done you ! I wish I could get even half as good! Does de-cluttering a 'puter count as well - I have been busy doing that at work! Jen x

You are doing so well! I'm in awe. I have been de-cluttering my mac and definitely feel a lot more up-together! I admit I used to be a magazineaholic but when I had a major de-clutter of my craft room some months ago I gave the lot to three crafty friends and have not bought one since!

Fabulous work on the decluttering, Mel. Like others I find it hard to tear out pages from Craft mags - no problem with recipes out of monthly mags mind.
How do you store the torn pages? I'm currently on a decluttering trip to make some space for the twins and might try to flog off some papercraft mags but it might be easier to tear and recycle...
