Lucky Girl

We got engaged on 3rd December 1995. It was a magical evening. It had been raining. There were lights reflecting on the wet pavements. There were ducks. There was pizza and, later, Malteser ice cream. It was wonderful.

This is not that story.

This is the story of us announcing our engagement.

Me: Hi Mum, we've got some news! We've got engaged!
The Mother: What?! I see! Congratulations! He's a lucky guy....

Me: Hi Dad, guess what? I'm engaged!
The Father: Congratulations! It is to The (not yet) Doctor, isn't it?! He's a lucky guy....

Me: Hello, Nan! I'm just calling to tell you that The (not yet) Doctor and I have got engaged!
The Grandmother: Oh, how lovely! Congratulations! He's a lucky guy....

The (not yet) Doctor: Hi Mum, I've got some news for you. Mel and I are engaged!
The (soon to be) Mother-in-Law: Oh darling, that's wonderful! I'm so pleased for you! You're a lucky guy....

You get the idea. Poor The Doctor!

He was kind enough to agree with them all though, making reference to that fact in his wedding speech :-)

However, I think it's definitely time to make my side of the story heard. Kind though everyone is to say that he's a lucky guy, I know the truth of the matter.

And the truth is that, actually, I'm a lucky girl.

I love you, my The Doctor man xx

This post was brought to you as part of Sian's Storytelling Sundays

(And the layout was brought to you as a result of the webcam crop!)

I really like the speech bubbles and the unusual colours on the LO. Not at all what you'd expect from a nengagement page

I adore that photo of you two! And a great story. My sister stole the thunder of announcing our engagement, as she got engaged just the week before. And, then we ended up with weddings just one month apart. My poor mother!

What a great story! And the LO is perfect, nothing like I'd imagined it looking after we saw a sneak-peek at our webcam crop. x

Surely he was indeed a very lucky guy to win the heart of such a lucky girl?

My first impression of this layout is WOW - how similar you and TG are, I suppose it shouldn't come as as surprise, but she is so like you!
This is one of those great stories to have in the album so the children can remember the story as well .... and so TD knows just how lucky he is! ;-)

How very lovely! And a glimpse at the two of you at the time? so nice to see!

When we told my Mum we were engaged she cried and hugged my new fiance. When we told my MIL she said Oh right. I need to hang the washing out....
(But when my FIL came home, he got out the champagne, so that was alright especially as we wnted him to actually marry us!)

I love a story which gets others telling their own stories about their experiences - that's the best kind of story there is!

Lovely story and I love how you've used the quotes to tell it.

Great story, Mel! Sorry I wasn't around on Sunday... it's pretty manic here just now!
I love how you told the story - how gallant of The Doctor to agree with everyone - very generous (though I'm sure they were right).
I'm inclined to agree with your view though - if he is still so generous and gallant, then you certainly are a lucky girl.
