And the books go to....

In the absence of trained hamsters, tame children and/or the bravery to put myself in front of a video camera, I resorted to the high-tech method of:
  •  tearing a sheet of paper into little scraps
  • writing a name on each scrap
  • putting the scraps into a carrier bag and shaking it
  • reaching in without looking and pulling out 10 pieces of paper
  • realising that one of them was the receipt from my shopping
  • pulling out an 11th piece, as I'm not sure Co-op really wants a copy of this book....

I'm thrilled to see that copies will be travelling across the world - I'm also relieved that some of them will be staying in this country, as the postage is going to mount up!! And for that reason - cost of postage - I have had to stick to the 10 copies, though I'm sorry not to be able to send one to each of you who expressed an interest. If any of the winners do pass their copy on via their blogs, I hope you'll get a chance to read the book then! x

Oh, you'd like to know who did get picked? OK then, I suppose..... ;-)

Tania, your name came out first (my newest follower!) Next up was jordiegirl (our school didn't dress up for World Book Day either, jordiegirl - we're doing it week after next as part of our Book Fair instead). Then came Mary B (got that photo yet Mary?) closely followed by Ruth (I agree - I reckon World Book Night was inspired by Sian's Pass the Book....)

Next out of the bag came Deb Turtle (yes, I could hear your comment in your actual voice, lovely!) Then there was jo (love how you plan to pass on your copy, Jo - that made me smile!) Next up? K (so glad you like the cover, hun!) and then Lizzie (hooray, you didn't miss out altogether on World Book Day/Night events then!)

A couple more: debs14 (in the nick of time, huh, Deb? Don't finish your other book too quickly though, I have to get to the Post Office, OK?!) and - lastly but not leastly - it's Amy! (I may not be able to bound up and enthusiastically place it in your hands, Amy, but I promise to bound to the Post Office and mail it as enthusiastically as possible!)

Many congratulations to the ten of you, and oh, how I wish I could have sent a book to everybody!

Now, if you see your name above, please could you email me on {ispeakmelsh} at {hotmail} dot {com}? I have contact details for many of you already - indeed, I have addresses for several of you! - but if you could email me anyway I can keep track of who's seen this post and who I need to hunt down to let them know they've won ;-)

Just a little note - lots of people were very happy (if surprised!) to receive their free books yesterday :-) I kept back a few to give away at school, both to colleages and other parents, but most books have now found new homes, which is lovely. I wonder where they'll travel on to next?

Yes, of course it was my idea. I'm just too modest..JOKE. That was a joke :) Seriously, I think they'll all love it. Just as long as they remember I saw Jackson Brodie first..

I can just imagine the surprise of a lot of people that you gave a free book too. I have visions of everyone telling friends on blogs, facebook etc all about it :)

My things have been busy in your part of the world and blogland. I feel like I've been out in hibernation for some time now. Oh. Wait, I think I really have been hibernating. Trying to recoup. Let's hope this time it takes.

Thanks so much, Mel! I will definitely be passing this book on when I've finished it.

Trust me to totally miss out on all the fun! I even forgot to see what was happening on the TV as I had read about it a few weeks ago and was gonna try and give a book away on my blog (but didn't quite manage it!). Congrats to all the winners and look forward to hearing what you all think of it!

Thank you Mel so much for picking my name, have emailed you my address (my email address is craftycreation@freeuk.com) just in case you wonder who the heck that is.
No I haven't managed to get to top of town yet to photograph the building I have in mind. Must see if I can do it soon.

How lovely to send some off to far flung places! I received two copies of Fingersmith at my bookclub last night - one for me and one for a friend. Our bookclub "giver" was struggling to give 48 books away - people don't seem to trust "free" gifts and look for the catch!

Wow, thanks Mel! Sorry you had to e-mail me to get my attention... it's been rather manic here this week!
I'll look forward to my book, whenever you have time to send it my way. X
