I ♥ Rome!

I ♥ looking at all the exotic destinations on the departure board...

I ♥ that British Airways worked out cheaper than the 'no-frills' airlines for this particular flight!

I ♥ having a window seat and a great view of the Alps...

I ♥ arriving in Rome! And being with my The Doctor after nearly 2 weeks apart :-)

I ♥ bookshops with my name on!

I ♥ noticing tiny details of beauty and interest wherever we went...

I ♥ my first glimpse of St Peter's!

I ♥ the sheer size of this sculpture. If this is just the head, you can imagine how huge it must have been in its entirety!

I ♥ (in a slightly freaked out way) the realism of these eyes, having been so used to the blank empty stare of statues.

I ♥ the amazing detail everywhere you look, up, down, left, right, everywhere!

I ♥ spotting Lake Garda on one of the ancient maps:

I ♥ being able to glimpse where The Doctor had been working for the previous two weeks (the archives at the Vatican Library, in case you were wondering - the entrance is in the far left corner):

I ♥ more details, big and small...

I ♥ this staircase. I ♥ this a LOT.

I ♥ sharing a platter of pizza with The Doctor for lunch :-)

I ♥ St Peter's. Those colonnades are *fabulous*

I ♥ glimpses of the Swiss Guards :-)

I ♥ the stunning beauty inside St Peter's...

I ♥ proper Italian ice cream :-)

I ♥ proper Italian espresso, too!

I ♥ strolling along the banks of the Tiber, browsing the stalls, admiring the reflection of the bridges in the water...

I ♥ this castle - and all the gorgeous sights inside and out (oh, the views!!)

I ♥ that this looks like a bird's face...

I ♥ the pigeon drinking from the water fountain!

I ♥ the sunset, oh my...

I ♥ Rome by night:

I ♥ that we still had most of another day to keep exploring, enjoying, absorbing, experiencing Rome!

(So yes, look out for another post coming soon....)

Absolutely fantastic photos! I'm also a big fan of Rome. When I visited St. Peter's, I was fortunate enough to see Pope JP2 in the flesh ~ amazing.

Beautiful photos Mel! The one time I've been to Italy, we stayed at a resort overlooking Lake Garda and it was absolutely breaktaking. So glad you're enjoying your trip.
