I ♥ Rome some more

I ♥ the walk to the Forum, and all the beautiful details to be seen en route...

I ♥ that even the bins have beautiful details on them:

I ♥ being able to stand in the middle of the road to photograph the Colosseum! Hooray for traffic-free Sunday!

I ♥ seeing groups of sight-seeing monks :-)

I ♥ the Forum itself, very much...

I ♥ that this gull flew into shot just as I released the shutter!

I ♥ these wall painting from so many hundreds of years ago, oh my...

I ♥ the view from the top of Palatine Hill:

I ♥ this tree. Just because.

I ♥ strolling past the Colosseum casually as if it wasn't the most impressive and extraordinary thing, but just any old building, *shrug*, not worth taking much notice of really...

I ♥ these maps, showing the extent of the Roman Empire at different times.

I ♥ proper, authentic Italian pizza, cooked in a wood-fired oven, followed by an intense, rich espresso, mmm!

I ♥ the Santa Maria Maggiore Church - stunningly beautiful:

I ♥ seeing my The Doctor lost in contemplation :-)

I ♥ one last gelato before heading home:

Most of all, I ♥ sharing it with you, my darling The Doctor man xxx

PS I've been merciful, believe it or not. This post and my other included just some of the many, many photos I took over the weekend.... I feel an album coming on!!

It was a lot more crowded the day (day!) we were there. It really doesn't look too busy at all - perfect in fact, with that spring-ish sunshine and a lovely man to accompany you!

Just one album Mel? but joking aside you have some stunning photos and I bet they will bring back lots of lovely memories each time they are viewed.

One album, a video on youtube and a short travelogue on the BBC I think!
You certainly packed a lot into a few days, thank you so much for sharing (just off to check Easyjet prices ..............)

I loved the Colosseum as well....but think your choice of early Spring is a much better time to visit than when we went....the summer is too hot and too crowded.
I also think you may need about 4 albums at this rate!!!
Oh....and while I remember....I hear a rumour you may be going somewhere else special....have a Timmietastic day!!

Like others, I'm jealous that your visit was not very crowded! We were there mid-summer, and it was packed. My favorite pix of the coliseum that I took were some mosaics of the gladiators. My favorite street scenes included the fountains and vespas.

Absolutely an album or two is in order. Beautiful photography which helped me remember that when I was in Rome as a teenager we saw a performance in one of the ruins. I hadn't thought of that in many, many years. What exactly is that in the middle of the pizza?

Oh beautiful pictures Mel. Gotta love the sight-seeing monks :) and THAT tree! *faints at sight of lovely tree*

It looks like you and The Doctor had a wonderful time.

Thanks, everyone :-)

Beverly - the pizza was 'capricciosa', so the toppings were ham, mushroom, artichoke and olive (and egg, for some reason!) I expected the toppings to be evenly distributed across the pizza, but instead I had a 'ham section', a 'mushroom section', etc. (Not an 'egg section', though - I took the egg off!) It was delicious, like having four different pizzas in one :-)

Oh, this sooooo makes me want to go! Alas, Sarah will get there before I will! But now I know to go in the Spring or Fall (not the Summer!). Your photos are fabulous. LOVE the tree. And the monks. And the Colosseum...swoon.

I have a little album from my long weekend in NY a few years ago and I love bringing it out and looking at it again and I'm sure you'll do the same with your one on Rome.

Wonderful photos! I am currently re-reading the SPQR mystery series, set in Rome right before Caesar comes to power & it's great seeing photos of places mentioned it in.
