Giving and receiving

I've been so pleased, flattered and honoured lately to be given a blog award - twice! First from Laura, and then from Sandra. (I had a sort of feeling someone else may have done so too but I either imagined that, or - to my shame - I've accidentally deleted the email with the details, so if it was you, please accept my apologies! xx)

It's always lovely to receive a blog award, especially when people are kind enough to say such lovely things about my blog when they pass it on - thank you, Laura and Sandra! (And, obviously, thank you mysterious and possibly imaginary third person!)

I always struggle a bit with the next part, though. The idea with most of these awards is to (a) share some facts about yourself, and (b) pass on the award to other fabby blogs (not that I'm trying to say that my blog is fabby, but - oh, you know what I mean!!)

I can usually manage (a), though it's getting harder to think of things I haven't already told you.

And then I get to (b), and I get stuck. Not because I can't think of anyone, but because I can think of so very many. I follow many, many blogs ('Hi, my name is Mel and I'm a blogoholic...') and there is so much talent out there! So many great photographers, crafters, storytellers.... So many interesting, funny, daft people whose blogs I look forward to reading each time I log on. How on earth can I possibly narrow it down?! The truth is, I just can't. So I suppose really that I can't fulfil the conditions of the award and therefore shouldn't accept it?

Maybe that's so, but it doesn't make me any less grateful for being thought of by the people who gave the award to me. And hey, I can still play along and share some facts, right? :-)

If I can think of some - hmmm......
  1. I have 5 different email addresses, all in use. I'm not even sure how that happened.
  2. I've had a flurry of messy creativity lately - I've made a batch of inchies, some art journal pages, a felt flower brooch, some cards - and I've decorated an apron (and my fingers) with lots of different colours of ink!!
  3. I'm hoping that The Doctor doesn't notice that the living room carpet now has hints of lots of different colours of ink..... (I did put newspaper down, I did!)
  4. I've now not eaten crisps for about a year. I'm so pleased about this :-)
  5. That is, if you don't count about half a dozen vegetable crisps on two separate occasions? But I didn't really enjoy them, so they don't count, right?
  6. My taste in music is nothing if not varied. My CD collection includes albums by The Black-Eyed Peas, Maroon 5, Eminem, Will Young, G4, The Kaiser Chiefs, Squeeze, The Saw Doctors, The Beatles, REM, The Levellers, Outkast, Pink, The Police, Crowded House, The Pigeon Detectives, Muse, Green Day, Killers, The Gorillaz, Wet Wet Wet, Belle and Sebastian - and so on!
  7. I've read 16 books so far this year.
Thanks again to Laura and Sandra and my (possibly) imaginary friend! xx

And now to give.... Yes, it's time to announce the winner of my 1000th post giveaway! I tried bribing The New Hamster with chocolate but he still wasn't interested in helping me pick the winner (*sigh!*) so I resorted to It told me to give the prize to:

Congratulations, Kirsty :-) I have your email address already so I'll be in touch this evening to discuss your prize. And thanks to everyone else for your kind comments xx

FIVE email addresses? I think I might lose the will to live if I tried to manage that lot. I am impressed.

Now I need to go and tell Jo you are not the only one she knows who likes Belle and Sebastian :)
