Traditional: Revisited

I nearly forgot that I needed to return to this one! I did make notes of lots of our traditions over the Christmas period, though, so I can do the journaling for this page now :-)

  • Christmas lights walk round our neighbourhood
  • Hanging stockings on Christmas Eve
  • Mince pie and sherry (or, lately, ginger wine) for Santa and carrot and water for reindeer
  • Carol Service in the evening on the Sunday before Christmas, and I sing in the choir
  • Christmas Eve children's carol service
  • Service on Christmas morning
  • Stockings may be opened when the kids wake, but they don't disturb us till a pre-agreed time!

  • Breakfast, then The Girl gives out the gifts from under the tree
  • Take it in turns to open a present each
  • Light snack of smoked salmon when we get home from church, then kids play while I get main meal ready
  • Quiet afternoon playing with new toys
  • Boxing Day - more of the same
  • V traditional meal of big turkey roast with pigs in blankets, lots of stuffing, homemade gravy and NO SPROUTS (except for The Boy, for whom they're a treat!)

  • Surprise presents at school (The Children take in a small amount of money and choose a gift for each of us and each other, to be a surprise on Christmas Day)
  • Secret Santa at work (names allocated); Secret Santa at House Group (£1 limit, no names allocated)
  • The In-Laws call at midnight on New Year's Eve
  • We spend NYE quietly at home
  • I make our Christmas cards
  • Cards received displayed on bookcase, kids' cards upstairs
  • Decorate tree together, using ornaments collected over the years
I think that's a fair summary of all our current traditions! It will be interesting to see how they change over time :-)

This is one of my favourites of your JYC pages. Really lovely cosy feel to it

Such pretty photos - makes me want to reach out and take a peek! Lovely idea to journal/list all the traditions. My girl (now 26) likes to give out all the presents too!

Oh, pretty! I like this scrap page - very warm and Christmassy, without being ott!
You do have a list of Traditions! I'm not sure ours would be so long.. but I definitely agree with the "No disturbing parents til a decent hour" and "No Brussels Sprouts" (YUK!).
Good post, Mel... and where did you find that cute little display easel? I would like one, I think!

I'd forgotten all about the traditional Christmas lights walk after reading about it last year. Such a great idea! x
