Packing Away

We always take down our decorations and pack away our tree just before The Children go back to school. It doesn't feel right somehow, to have the things still up when the emphasis is on a new term and a new calendar year. This year, it meant we took everything down on Monday 3rd January.

In truth, I get annoyed slightly past the point of rationality when I see the Christmas lights still on outside our local shops once the kids are back! I'm not the kind of person who's done with Christmas as soon as the 25th is over, I like to enjoy that period between Christmas and New Year, but once we've got into January then I do feel ready to put it all away again till the following December.

The process is pretty quick and easy, really - a box for the tree, and a box for the other bits and pieces; stack it all in, and help The Doctor to put the boxes in the loft. And there they stay till next Christmas. We're done now!

Much as I've enjoyed journaling my Christmas this year, I'm ready to put this project away now, too. One last prompt to come, one last page to make, and that will be enough.

Christmas is over. I'm ready to get on with 2011 now.

Christmas can never be long enough for me! If I had my way, decorations would be up earlier and down later LOL. But I also feel that sometimes, a new start to the year means clearing the old and starting afresh, I'm sad to see the docorations all in their boxes in the loft ... but onwards and upwards I say :)

Yep, I'm putting my project to bed too - all lovingly tucked into an album with a do not open til Dec label on the front!

Mine are all packed away too...still enjoying that bare uncluttered feeling! Much as I love putting them up, I enjoy them coming down just as much! I have a friend who always has an enormous real tree & it has been known to stay up till Easter before now!! Well if you pay £100+ for one I guess it's understandable but it would drive me potty!!

I'm with you on putting Christmas away as soon as possible. Looking forward to the coming year and anticipation as to what it may bring crowds out everything else out.

Congratulations on following through JYC. What an accomplishment!

We used to keep everything up until the traditional 12th day of Christmas, 6th Jan, but then we didn't put anything up till Christmas Eve. However, this year we packed it all away on the 3rd, too. Also enjoying the lean, bare, uncluttered look!

That first weekend of the new year is it for me. Christmas is done, bring on the Valentines' Day chocolate already!

I'm not sure I will finish my JYC project this year. I completed 2007, did a few layouts for 2008 & then ended up incorporating them into 2009s completed project and I am thinking maybe JYC should be an every other year thing for me.

Well done on finishing JYC - your pages look great. I like to have our decorations down too before school goes back.

well done Mel for sticking with JYC. I failed after a few days(I knew I would) because the extra hours I get at the shop (cards & gifts)means Im fed up of Xmas way too quickly!! We have recieved Valentine/Mothers Day/ Easter cards already this week!!
New Years Day is my time for Xmas to be packed away - no regrets!

We are late to put up and early to put away over here - just the way it has always been - I know what you mean about seeing decorations up into January!

Ours went on the 4th, I had to wait for steve to have a day off as there is so much to pack away! Hopefully I can catch up on JYC soon so that the Christmas stash can go away too! :)

6th Jan is our deadline date for taking down the decorations....anything past then is bad luck, or so I was told by my Grandmother! :-o

Well done on achieving your JYC project, such dedication, I imagine you're very pleased that you've completed it :)

Happy New Year! I feel the same way, as excited I am to start the holidays, I am always ready to say goodbye to them as well. And Christmas lights on houses in June drive me insane!! I have loved watching your journal progress, TFS :)

:o) Oh, Mel, I had to laugh when I read that you get slightly annoyed seeing Christmas lights up well after the holiday is done. This is a real pet peeve of mine that Carrie and Doug tease me about. It's become kind of a joke with us, really.

I came home from work the week after Christmas and Doug had plugged in our outside lights as a joke. hahaha. Real funny. :o]

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. xo
