It came painted a plain glossy white, and not bad really, a nice simple B set askew - B for Books, and B for Billy (their famous bookcase range). But I think it looks better after a bit of sanding and distressing, and application of an offcut of a lovely patterned paper (which also got the sanding and distressing treatment):
Shame they don't do other letters, they'd make great personalised gifts. Maybe I should befriend lots of people whose names begin with B?!
This is my post for the 19th day of Blogtoberfest - 19 days and still on track!

what a gr8n idea for a prezzie,........blog friends maybe??? ;-))
Jo xxxx
wonderful gift idea. for bookends seems "a" and "z" would be appropriate!
Very clever of you to dress it up! I love Ikea. They have the most interesting finds in their store.
I'm surprised that they don't have other letters. Maybe you cam make up nicknames for your friends that begins with "B" and then the bookends will be their nickname initial. Let see, Beauty, Butterfly, Booboo Bunny, Bud. . .
Clever idea, Linda! You can be 'Brainy' then ;-)
oh fab, i looked at them the other week and thought "why dont they do these in other letters?!"
Phew!! I've just caught up on a veritable plethora of posts!! Love your clock pics & can't wait to see the LO....The boy looks so cute as a professor....Wow! Amazing Autumn fern fronds!...mmmmmm to those biscuits & I wouldn't have expected anything less than good quality control!...& finally...I've not seen those book-ends...will have to check those out on my next visit to Ikea!! Shame it's only B!!
It does seem a shame for them just to do the letter B. But it is a good idea for a present. B for 'birthday girl' or 'birthday boy' maybe?
what a great project!! it looks fantastic =-)
Great idea, I love Ikea things - I wonder why they only chose to do one letter too.
Hi Mel my surname begins with B lol
they look great btw
I've done something similar for the kids ... will have to photograph to show you sometime :-) They look great Mel.
Hey, this is cool. I've never seen that bookend at IKEA, but I do love what you've done with it.
And funny, I have never heard a bookshelf referred to as "Billy" before today, and yours is the second blog I've seen that phrase used on today. Is it an IKEA name?
Deb - yes, Billy is a particular range of Ikea bookcases - cheap but sturdy and very popular! We have 6 of them in our living room and several others elsewhere in the house :-)
Oooo - wonder when I can get to Ikea?! And more importantly, when I could fit in altering some of these! Love what you did with them & agree that they'd make great presents :)
Great idea Mel, they look fab!
