Bag yourself a prize!!

While browsing Blogtoberfest blogs, I came across some tutorials by the mighty fine and talented Curlypops. One of them was for a tote bag made from a teatowel - how fab is that?! (Rather than link directly to her pdf download, click here to go to the page where you'll find all of her tutorials, which seems fairer!)

Funnily enough, I'd picked up a pack of assorted cheap and colourful teatowels with some vague craft purposes in mind - now this tutorial helped bring my ideas together :-)

The thing is, I'm not very good at following instructions..... So, basically, I read through the tutorial once (a few days ago) and then pretty much made up what I was doing as I went along. So, Curlypops quite definitely gets the credit for the splendiferous idea; any bits that could have gone better are totally my own fault!!

I made one dinky little tote from half of a striped teatowel, and will make another from the other half - I'll share photos of those at some point soon.

Meanwhile, though, I wanted to share a photo of this bag with you:

It's made from a red waffle weave teatowel, trimmed with some leopard-print velvet ribbon, and with handles made from a leaopard-print scarf (bargains from my local market!)

The bag itself measures about 19.5" wide and 14.5" deep, and the handles are long enough to go over your shoulder but short enough that the bag shouldn't drag along the ground if you'd rather hold it in your hand!

The stitching is all fairly basic, I haven't done any neatening inside and there aren't any pockets or linings or anything fancy - but it's a light, strong, fun bag, and I'm really happy with it :-) It folds up small enough to tuck into your pocket or handbag ready for those unexpected, emergency shopping trips, too!

Now, my first idea was to make it part of my Blogtoberfest giveaway.

My second idea was to have a second giveaway, and spread the happiness a bit wider :-)

So, if you'd like a chance to win this bag (and I'll tuck a few little surprises inside it, too) just leave a comment on this post. As with my other giveaway, there are no special instructions, no need to follow my blog, no need to spread the word - though, once again, you are welcome to do those things if you wish! But to enter, just leave a comment here by midnight (GMT) on 31st October 2010. One entry per person, and I'm happy to post overseas. Winners will be chosen randomly (possibly by The New Hamster, haven't decided yet!) and announced on 1st November or as soon as possible after. Good luck! x

This is my post for the 16th day of Blogtoberfest - 16 days and still on track!

That's a mighty fine bag. while walking to catch the bus into town I was grumbling to my daughter that she had all her gym stuff in an ugly (Boots) carrier bag and why didn't she use a pretty one. This would be the perfect answer.

The Curlypops blog looks very interesting, especially the recipes.

I'd never have thought of sewing with T towels....and it looks so good.

That would be an excuse to buy some nice new tea towels, then. Actually, I should probably be doing that anyway.

Cute bag!

My wee girl loves her accessories... and firmly believes that you can't have enough shoes, hats or bags... it might just be time to indulge that belief :-)
