My First Layouts

It was so interesting to read about Shimelle's first forays into scrapbooking (her first post is here, then keep clicking the links at the bottom to read the rest of her story!) It made me go look through my albums and find the first layouts I ever made, just a few years ago. Here are a select few (with any personal details blurred out).

This is my first ever layout. I used the map of the park as a background with vellum layered over to tone down the colours. The little accents were cut from another leaflet, and the word art was computer printed then traced over with silver gel pen!

Soon after I started scrapping, I turned 30. The Doctor surprised me with a trip to London to see Les Miserables. Here's the double layout I made to commemorate that occasion:

Next big occasion after that was The Boy's first day at school. By now I'd discovered stickers...

Still had an interest in vellum, too...

I picked out a few older photos to scrap, including one of The Boy as a baby (no square punch, just lots of trimming by hand!):

And The Girl's first holiday (that's real sand from that actual beach):

But I wasn't above staging photo shoots just to fulfil a layout idea:

I quite liked my idea of (hand)cutting my title from spare scraps of the photos. Not sure where the thought to wrap silver thread everywhere came from though....

Go on, be brave. Show us your first layout! xx

To be honest, I'd have to look for my first layouts ;o), they may still be in boxes? I love your first ones and you obviously threw yourself into it from the word go with all your hand cut letters, squares, etc. It is interesting to see how our layouts have changed over the years.

Oooo, I like the idea of the vellum over the map, been thinking of doing something similar for our trip to Cardiff sight seeing Dr Who & Torchwood sites.

Yay, we used to live up the road from Beale Park! Went there loads when DS was little.

I love your first layouts! They are really rather good. Much better than my first attempts, though I was so proud of them at the time.

Thanks for sharing. I'll see if I can dig out the first couple that I made..

A lovely look along memory lane. It's amazing how our style of scrapping improves with practice!! Oh, and I spent many happy times at West Kirby when I was small.

My first bit of scrapbooking was our first family trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. The book is one of the few that is complete, but the pages suffer terribly from sticker sneeze and gross overuse of fancy-edged scissors. I'll have to post a few when I get a chance. Ah... 1998. The year the obsession began.

WOW!! Mel, you have had a great eye for layout/design from the beginning! I love the 'Les Mis' layout - simple yet it packs a punch with the color =-)
and the use of the real sand from the actual beach is a great idea - I'll have to remember that next time I'm in Ventura CA and bring some home with me!

Fun post! My first layout was made at a scrapbook class. It definitely wasn't me. The first project I tackled on my own was an album about a trip to the Southwest. I still love it.

My first layout is about a trip to Pompeii - and I'd rather it remained buried (see what I did there?)

I really enjoyed this post :)

What a great post! Love how you used vellum over the map.. might borrow that idea!

Think I might do one on my first layouts too.. It is fun to see how they've evolved over the years!
