First instalment

So, we had a pretty early start - the taxi picked us up at 5am to take us to the airport. (I am SO not a morning person, but this was worth it!) Our seats were over a wing, which wasn't ideal for taking photos, but we did get a few glimpses of the Alps - and of Lake Garda, of course!

We landed at Verona airport and had a short transfer through fields of vines and olive groves to get to our hotel on the outskirts of Peschiera. We got 'tagged' with red wristbands to show that we had the all-inclusive deal! The hotel was set within a golf course and we could see mountains in the distance.

There were 9 different swimming pools on the site! (I didn't swim in any of them but The Children had a good time checking them out...) Our room was on the first floor (I think that's second story in American?!) - it's third from the left in the photo.

On the first day we just settled into the hotel, but the next day we explored Peschiera itself - it's a beautiful harbour town on the south-east corner of Lake Garda, where the River Mincio flows out of the lake. The old town lies within fortified walls which were (re?)built by the Venetians in the 1550s and improved on by the Austrians. We just wandered around admiring all the gorgeous, interesting details and enjoying the sunshine and warmth!

It was great to see the local wildlife - during our holiday we saw lots of swallows, lizards and grebes!

And lunch was a slice of pizza, naturally!

Well, that's the first two days - many more photos to follow, but I think that's plenty for one post!

Oh what a gorgeous place! Looks wonderfully relaxing.

Yes ground floor = first floor, first floor = second floor.

We had a hell of time finding our hotel rooms while we were on our honeymoon in England & Holland
