I received an unexpected bouquet on July 20th :-) A little while back I helped a colleague's daughter to design and make her wedding invitations. (It was such fun!) She sent them out in early July and had had lots of positive feedback about them, so wanted to thank me again. Aren't these gorgeous?
And on that day I ate the last 'chownie'. I know Bakerella called them
brookies, but
this recipe is definitely a brookie so these must be chownies:

How lovely about the wedding invitations. Were you able to take any photos?
I did, but unfortunately they didn't turn out very well. I just had a quick look for them and they're really not worth sharing :-( The invitations themselves were lovely, though! :-)
It would be interesting to know what you did, though!
Those brookies are absolutely delicious. We just call them bar cookies
i made those cakes too . . . but they looked nothing like yours. did you use brown sugar or caster sugar? i used light soft brown and the cake ended up caramel coloured!
Elizabeth - I'll see what I can do :-)
Gemma - I used soft brown sugar too; one reason mine look quite light and well-risen is that my baking tin was too small so they were very deep and I had to cook them for ages. Next time I make them I'll use a bigger tin. Oh, and it was 'light' soft brown sugar, maybe that made a difference?
