The Boy is in Year 5 now so come September we'll be doing the rounds of open evenings in our local secondary schools, thinking through all the different options and filling in the local authority preference form. Oh joy.... One of the schools had an 'information evening' on June 29th so I went along to find out a bit more. I was suitably impressed but we won't make any decisions until after we and The Boy have looked through the prospectuses and made visits to several possible schools - so I can put off thinking about it again till September :-)

That day was also my last German class of the year. A few of us took in cakes to share during our coffee break; I made Schwarzwalderkirschkuchen (Black Forest muffins - chocolate muffins with fresh cherries, based on this recipe):

Now that's a recipe I'll be coming back to..The Tall One and his friends have what they call a "Cake-Off" at the end of term in German class and this would be perfect

Scary school stuff. We have to apply for primary school for Jacob in September. I feel a bit sick at the thought of my little boy going to school.
