On June 22nd I was invited to have a school dinner with The Children, as part of the healthy eating focus group. It was interesting to see the kind of thing they offered - and also the kind of thing The Children chose!! The Girl had chicken nuggets, chips and beans, a small slice of pizza and some plain pasta; The Boy went for the same herby spaghetti as I had, followed by angel delight. They both seemed to enjoy it but I still think packed lunches work better for us right now.

I also had a school governors' meeting that day. The school cook had made a selection of tempting biscuits, including some yummy shortbread, and someone had brought in some lovely fresh fruit too - I justified my piece of shortbread by having fruit with it!

School lunches seem so foreign to me - they don't exist here in Australia, unless you go to boarding school of course.

I've just noticed Amy's comment. That's interesting, I didn't know you couldn't have a school lunch in Australia.

I haven't had Angel Delight in years. I'm going to buy some now :)

That's exactly how I justify eating those strawberry tarts full of confectioner's custard :)

I'm with you on the packed lunch front...however good school dinners are...if I see an empty lunchbox, I'm pretty sure they've eaten lunch!!!

That shortbread & fruit looks very appetising! Note to self: check out Weight Watchers points value of shortbread to replicate this tasty morsel!!!

Who knew that school lunches could look so yummy? I still have nightmares about Scouse with beetroot!
