Yesterday morning I was thinking about the art journal I plan to make with my
boot camp responses, and wondering whether there were any particular pieces of writing I'd like that journal to contain. A certain expression came to mind: 'You should give your children roots and wings'. (I just tried Googling it to try to credit it properly but there appear to be various versions, each attributed to different people, so I gave up on that!) I realised that I'd quite like to write about my response to that phrase - and then yesterday's creative prompt at boot camp turned out to be 'fly'. That'll do!

The photo is a close-up of a little canvas I decorated a while back. The journaling? Not for my blog I'm afraid :-)

I love the texture and color of your canvas, Mel. And I also love the idea of your journaling leaning toward giving your children roots and wings. It's something I'm well aware of these days with Carrie moving out (hopefully this week). I suppose the "roots" part is behind me (for the most part) and now she's ready to use those wings.
It is a thought-provoking quotation. I hope we will succeed fairly well at this ourselves...
The butterfly canvas looks as if it was lovely. May we see all of it?
Glad you're enjoying your "Boot Camp"!
A good choice..better to journal honestly and keep it private, than write something sanitised simply for the sake of blogging it.
I'd like to see the rest of the canvas too.
Roots and wings - I'd never heard that expression before but it's very apt.
Love the colours on that canvas, when do we get to see the whole picture?
I LOVE BUTTERFLIES AND WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PICTURE AND IDEA. GOOD TO KEEP SOME THINGS PERSONAL RATHER THAN SHARE EVERYTHING WITH EVERYONE.

Great photo, like the colours and the butterfly. Anesha:)
Hope we get to see the completed art journal (if not read the journaling) when it's done.

The canvas looks fabulous Mel!
Wonderfully done!
oh Mel, I love that sentiment! Thanks for sharing.
