New baby news!

Yes, we have a new member of our family. He's about 3 inches long, has sandy and white hair, and answers to the name of The New Hamster. I still miss Smoky (the original The Hamster) but The Children were keen to welcome another pet to help ease their grief, so on Thursday, when they were off school as it was being used as a polling station, we took a trip to a nearby pet shop.

Would you like to meet The New Hamster? Here he is:

(The red-eye isn't because I had to use the camera flash - he does actually have red eyes!)

He had a good time exploring his surroundings, then settled down in a most peculiar position - upside down in one of the climbing tubes - to have a snooze! Now he's had the chance to get used to his new home a bit I'm working on persuading him that we're nice, harmless people who will feed him and look after him and want to be his friends. This may not be easy (especially when The Children try to 'help') but I'll let you know how it goes....

So cute!
Hope he soon settles down and becomes part of the family.
When do you start training him to pick competition winners?!

Welcome to the new hamster....hope he, too, is good as a random generator.

My immediate thought was whether he would be good as a competition judge, and I see that's a popular thought. Welcome to him.

He's very sweet! I hope he soon realises he's a lucky hammy to have a home with you. You need my friend's daughter to help train him - she is an animal-tamer I think.. all animals love her! Failing that, I suppose he'll get used to you if you handle him every day - it works on the guinea pigs (though they're bigger and less "squashable"!).

It's an awkward stage, but so rewarding when they start to show that they have little personalities. Love the idea that he kips on his back! :)
