Party on!

Woo-hoo! It's party time over at Shimelle's this weekend :-) The lovely lady herself is posting lots of challenges and inspirational ideas, with the odd freebie download too - make sure you check it out! So far I've had a go at a couple of the challenges, and I have plans to try a few more of them today - I'm sure The Doctor is just aching for some quality time with his The Children...? ;-)

So, first up, Shimelle challenged us to produce something on the theme of cupcakes. A little while ago I picked up a gorgeous set of notecards by the Hummingbird Bakery - two of each design, with a photo on the front and recipe on the back. I've put one of each into my little box to actually use as notecards, but the others I've kept for myself - the fronts for scrapbooking use, and the backs for my recipe file! And, of course, I had thus far completely failed to scrapbook any of the pics.... Here was my chance!

I love white textured cardstock backgrounds and it did suit the freshness of the photo. I wanted to draw out the other colours of the pic though, so I stamped a couple of journaling spots onto pink card (there are actually cute little white dots on that pink card too, for added interest), and die-cut the title from sandy and green card. For the lettering I cut two copies of each letter, trimmed down the green one, layered them and added Icicle Stickles over the green part. I also die-cut a little cupcake from a Sizzix die, with the bottom part in the same sandy 'cake' colour, and the top in thick cardstock which I then painted white, covered in glossy accents (my new favourite thing!) and sprinkled little beads over. (I think they're called bugle beads?) This all went onto one of the journaling cards. I added a tiny stamped hummingbird to the other before handwriting a few thoughts. I so want to make these cupcakes now!

I haven't had a chance to do anything with the second challenge yet, but the third was on the theme of bunting. I had so many ideas for this one, a couple of which I shall definitely come back to when I have more time, but as I didn't want to be up all night I decided to just make a quick card:

Stamped sentiment layered onto blue patterned paper, and little triangles cut from co-ordinating scraps of paper, attached at the top of each triangle, and then curled forward slightly for dimension. Simples :-)

Love the layout and the card but cupcakes have to be my favourite :). I've been looking at those notecards but didn't realise they had the recipe on the back as well - mind you, they're probably in the book (which I do have). Looking forward to see what you do next!

Lovely creations, Mel! What a fabulous touch to make the letters look like they have been iced. And the card is so cheery! I hope to play along with some of Shimelle's challenges too :)

Those are both very cute projects Mel! Funny, these are the two I have completed and will be posting tomorrow. Something For Almost Nothing has definitely made me scrap faster:) I'll be watching out to see what else you can create.

You've had quite the productive day. I have all of last night's challenges on tabs on my browser, but I was gone all day today. Of all your wonderful layouts these are my favorites. I love the white cardstock (and the whitespace) and the bunting card is just fantastic! I think I have all day tomorrow to play. Let's hope it works out.
