Beautiful buttons and a confession about crocs...

I'm working through the last few prompts from the Something From Almost Nothing class now :-) As expected, one of them was about buttons - of which I have a few... (hundred!) I woke this morning having dreamt up an idea using buttons with another of my Hummingbird Bakery cupcake cards; I then checked the forum to see that Shimelle had posted a challenge to scrap in just one colour, and my layout idea immediately evolved into this:

I haven't actually tried the recipe, by the way, and I'm not sure that I shall - the cupcakes look gorgeous though, don't they? :-)

And now for the confession...

I don't like Crocs. Sorry. I'm sure they are amazingly comfortable to wear, but I really don't like the look of them and I'll not be buying myself any.

For this layout I printed a photo (from an advert for Crocs) onto plain paper, using a draft setting, and crumpled it up a bit before sticking it to the page. I stamped the words 'I don't like' using my Martha Stewart alpha stamps. (I seem to be having a bit of trouble getting a clear impression with these stamps, though in this case I think it was the inkpad that was at fault - I don't mind the title looking faded though, it goes with the draft-print of the photo!) Finally I added the word 'crocs' using buttons. The colours are a bit brighter in real life but I think it might have worked better if I'd had enough yellow buttons of a suitable size for one of the letters, to 'lift' the title a little?

I think I'm nearly ready to declare my I Have To Confess album finished, but I'll just check out those last two SFAN prompts first...

PS Elizabeth, you asked about my white journaling pen. It's a Sakura Gelly Roll pen, which came highly recommended. I don't know if mine has maybe dried up a bit but I find that it doesn't always flow smoothly. When it does, it's a delight - it shows up beautifully against dark backgrounds! Anyone have any other recommendations?

I like your lavender page Mel, it is so pretty. I'm not sure on crocs either! They look comfy but I'm not sure on the style!

Such a pretty lavender border on that layout Mel. It's really lovely! No, I'm not a crocs girl either, although I do have a couple of pairs of birkenstocks and lots of people don't like those either.

oh I am so relieved that I am not the only one who doesn't like crocs! haha

love your lavender page!

Nother anti-croc here, and I am very impressed at your restraint in your description of why you dont like them, I dont think I would have been, lol.

Good for you. Crocs are not dainty, not pretty, not stylish. Even in good colours they look lumpen. Anti-croc scrap-layouts are fine!

Oh me too on the crocs - I've never liked them!! Just not my cup of tea lol ;)

I'm with you on the crocs...they always look so plastic & BIG!! But everyone I know who wears them say they are sooo comfy, but not for me I think!!

I love your cupcake LO & spotted it in the thread...magic use of those mini buttons!! The Croc page is lovely & I like the non-uniformity of the stamped letters!...& I agree that yellow buttons seem to be the most difficult to find!! If I spot any anywhere I always snap 'em up!!

I use a 'uni-ball Signo broad' opaque white pen for doodling & journalling & it flows really smoothly...I got it at Staples. The 'Inkessentials' one I bought at Ally Pally last year was quite pricey & was dry in no time at all!!

Have a great weekend!! :)

I second the uniball signo pen - works beautifully. I love the cupcake layout. My "I confess" album only had 5 pages I think, and it felt complete!

I love all those tiny buttons around that cupcake photo--the ribbons, too. I'm another one who's no fan of Crocs although my daughter and MIL both swear by them.

The lavender LO is beautiful and you're not alone in not liking Crocs ... okay for little people, but that's it!

Am not really a lavender person...but this has worked so well....and a great way to use up some ribbons.

I don't like crocs either. However, do think they look cute on children.

Love the Lavender layout... and the Crocs one is fun.
Crocs are really bad for your feet anyway, Mel, so you're saving yourself some health issues...

As for white pens - I bought some a while ago, which are great. They are white paint markers. If you remember to shake thoroughly, they give a really dense white, which is great on dark backgrounds, but also shows up on stuff like pink cardstock etc.
They are called "Uni POSCA" and come in different thicknesses. I have a fine and medium bullet point. They're great.
Also have a Pen-Touch white fine-point pen (1.0mm). That's pretty good too. It's permanent, opaque white ink.
Mind and store these all flat - or else the ink/paint can go all blobby on you and make big ink-blots on your work!

Ok, both really great pages today Mel - love them both.
I'm a birkenstock girl because I can't wear flip-flops/thongs due to an extremely high arch .... however, my sister bought me a pair of crocs after one of the kids were born as my feet swelled so dreadfully absolutely no shoes fit me and I had to walk out of the hospital in something! They did they job in that case .... they are now useful at the beach but otherwise they don't see the light of day :-)

Crocs are cute on kids & I think they have their place on adults - in the garden or at the beach. Not out for everyday wear.

Cute layouts!

Yes, I DO like the lavender cupcakes and no, I DON'T like crocs either......but the name as a title is really effective made of buttons too! Thanks for the comment on my blog!X

How cute are those tiny buttons!

Ok, about the Crocs issue. I hated them until I realised they had Disney ones with Mickey Mouse shaped holes. So I tried them on. And they really are that comfy.
So I would say, if you want to keep your dislike of them intact, do NOT try them on. lol

Great use of buttons - and I don't like the look of crocs either, nor do I own any!
