On March 31st we had a 2 1/2 hour drive in the other direction! The Maramures region lies to the north of Transylvania and borders with the Ukraine. We had the amazing opportunity to spend the day visiting a family living in a village up in the mountains, because their son is a good friend of the friend we were visiting. Again, there is much more to say about the day, but I'll save it for another post! Here's a photo of the village with the mountains in the background (taken shortly before we got caught in torrential rain!!)

And oh my, the hospitality of our hosts was tremendous :-) There was so much food! Here's just a sample of what I ate that day - a savarina:

Staying with local families is such a good way of really seeing what a new country is like. So much more interesting that just booking into a hotel in the centre. This looks like a wonderful trip!

Looks like your trip was very special in many ways. We don't have these expansive views in the northeast. Out west we see them all the time, and oooh and aaah everytime we come upon them. This is lovely--and the dessert looks scrumptious!

To say "you learn something new every day" sounds flippant; but I really mean it here. I'm loving these photos of somewhere completely new to me. The wonders of blogging again :)

It looks beautiful and I can't wait until our next get together to hear all about it. Hopefully, you learnt how to make those cakes? :)

Beautiful photos and fantastic looking desert. One day in Budapest I decided to see how many pastries I could eat in one day without exploding!
The answer was 3.5!
