Weekly Wordle

Here's something else that I *might* do through 2010. I like the idea of it, but I'm not going to get obsessive about it. Well, not yet, anyway.

I had this idea that I could use the amazing Wordle site to generate a Wordle from my blog on a weekly basis - you just need to put in the address of your blog, and it will generate a pic from all the text in the posts showing on your frontpage. I changed my settings so that a week's worth of posts show at a time. If I do keep this up for a year it will be really interesting to see which words appear frequently :-) Here's the first week of 2010:

I love that 'photo' is one of the bigger words :-) And 'try'! Furrypig, you're in there, did you see? I'm not quite sure about the words 'little' and 'mind' being so close together though... ;-) And how neat is it that 'fit' actually does fit inside the 'y' of 'year'?!

OK, you don't have to get as excited about it as I have lol - this is for me really, after all! But I've found this really interesting to do :-)

Some notes for my own benefit: The font is Teen, the layout is Half and Half with Straighter Edges, and the colour is BW. Other settings are Leave Words as Spelled and Remove common English Words.

Jo - and anyone else - what I do is make a 'screen grab' of the Wordle and save that as a jpeg, then crop it to show just the Wordle itself. To get the screen grab I just hold down Ctrl and hit Prt Sc (Print Screen); I usually find Paint the easiest programme to paste into for some reason, even though I never use it for anything else!!

The Wordle site says it's fine to get the image this way, but you must clearly credit them with a link to the site.

Hope that helps :-)

I love wordles, they are such good fun and I think I am already obsessed! I often make one to sum up our summer holiday abroad and then put it in the mini book I make! Thanks for sharing x

i hope you do continue using the "Wordle" on a weekly basis; i think it's a GREAT IDEA!

thanks SO MUCH for leaving the instructions in the comments here, not to mention the notes on the font used - i am a BIG fan of fonts so leaving the font name is helpful to me in case i want to go looking for it to use in something =-) i will have to try this "wordle" site soon!

I love Wordle, but I didn't know about the blog feature. Too cool. I did one last year with my word for the year and hung it on my bulletin board over my desk.

Very cool Mel - for some reason my computer never likes me trying to make one of these :-(

Fantastic idea for a weekly feature! Then you could make it into a LO and have a years worth in an album. I see the word "tennants" in there too. When I was a student that meant a stack of lager, not a timelord. lol
