THIS is why I scrapbook!

I gave this question some thought already, and my previous post is still part of my answer. But I felt inspired to make a mini-book with this and to let my layouts answer the question - yes, this is a scrapbook of my layouts!! I've picked out some of my favourites and some that help tell the story. This is why I scrapbook...

To capture a season...

...or a holiday...

...or a moment.

To honour those I love - my husband...

...my children...

...my family.

To respond to a challenge...

...a question...

...a poem...

...or a song title.

To look back...

...and to look forward.

Sometimes a blog post becomes a layout...

...and sometimes a layout becomes a blog post.

...and the things that really don't!

To share the whole process with others...

...but mostly, and essentially, I scrapbook for ME. I scrapbook because I love to create. I love to play with paper and card and scissors, with ribbon and buttons and stickers, with ink and glue and paint. I do it for me.

And that's OK :-)

And the mini-book? It's very mini lol - just 4x4" - and simply has a picture of each of the above layouts, a stamped journaling block, and a caption with the relevant part of the story. The very final layout above is actually the inside back cover of the book. Because this post is already *very* picture heavy, I've put the mini-book together as a slide show instead (or click here if you can't see the slideshow):

THIS is why I scrapbook :-)

Mel this is a beautiful post and so eloquently put together. I agree with every reason and I guess most scrapbookers would. But the bottom line is I do it for ME - and like you said, that is okay!

Awesome idea. I'm hoping to do something very similar with all of those Fashion Forward posts that I've been making. Love the corrugated cardboard - cute but funky....

What a great post! And your layouts are awesome, Mel. I love how you use different techniques on your pages (I must try the one where you cut the photo into strips!). And you mini-book? ~sigh~ Thanks for the great inspiration!

What a great idea! I have some ideas for my layout for this project, but haven't pulled it altogether yet. One thing for sure, it won't be anywhere near as complete as this!

But it's great Mel! I don't know why you think we might not vote for you.. I think it's such an imaginative and thoughtful way to respond to the challenge.
There are some great entries for Shimelle's contest, but yours is definitely a fab idea and a great little album.
I like that slide show too.

Ditto!!! I couldn't have said it better myself! That is one awesome mini book, which would, to a non-scrapper, provide a conclusive case for scrapbooking!!!! Break a leg!!!
