Project 365

So, the idea is to take a photo every day for a year. I take photos nearly every day as it is, so I figured I could do this! But I am an Obsessive Type, so I hope to goodness I don't miss a day, as that would freak me out rather.....

The talented Ali Edwards produced some new photo overlays for projects such as this, which saves me the job I thought I'd have to do of adapting some I already had - but did rather challenge my New Year's 'Aim' of cutting down on the online shopping. Oh, well... It's an investment, right?!

Project 365 can involve scrapping every photo, but I don't fancy the pressure of that, thank you. So I'm just going to choose a photo from those I take each day, and add the overlay with the appropriate date. I would like to have them printed up in book form at the end of the year though, using one of the online printing facilities. Meanwhile I'll just post them on here as I go along. I won't be keeping up-to-date with the posting (obviously, as I haven't put any of them on yet!) but I will be up-to-date with taking the photos themselves. Look out for the first instalment tomorrow :-)

I thought it might be of interest (to me, at least!) to take a food photo each day too - now this one I'm not going to get obsessive about, if it falls by the wayside then so be it, but I like the idea. It links in with another of my New Year's 'Aims': to try out some new recipes. It could get boring if I just photograph chocolate every single day, after all!! So to help me with this, I've gone through some notebooks and recipe books and picked out some recipes I'd like to try. I may not follow the recipe exactly, but I've marked the pages that gave me inspiration!

Then I wrote out the name of each dish on a strip of paper, folded it, and put it into a jar. The idea is that I'll pick out a slip each week before doing my weekly shop, add the ingredients to my shopping list, and make that new dish some time over the week. Most of the dishes are main meals for me and The Doctor to try (The Children are so darn fussy that they won't try much that's new...) but I've included one or two cakes, puddings, etc, and a few things that The Doctor wouldn't like but I'd like to try.

And I can top up the jar with some more ideas if this works well and I actually get through these slips of paper!

This would be rather easier if we had similar tastes, but unfortunately I like cheese and The Doctor doesn't; he loves onions and peppers and I really don't; I prefer creamy sauces and he likes tomatoey and/or spicy ones; etc, etc! Which does limit the recipes some. But I've got a few to get started with, anyway :-)

So, that's Project 365 the Melsh way! I'm also taking on Scrap Your Day this year (though I shall be watching Shimelle's Document: 2010 closely to see if I'd rather do that - or if I might do that as well). I shall talk about that nearer the time.

What projects do you have in mind for 2010? Anyone else doing 365?

No. Not doing Project 365. Like you, I tend to jump into things with both feet. So, Project 365 would become obsessive for me! LOL! I am going to do Shimelle's Scrap Monthly class, though. And following along with a few scrap weekly challenges. I have a blog post bubbling around in my head about which challenges/classes work for me. Look for it sometime next week.

I'm 365-ing this year. My plan is to self-portrait on 3rd small people on 15th and 17th, husband on whatever date his birthday is (can never quite remember) and then whatever takes me the rest. I shall order them as prints every month and may even pop them on flickr. (Already sounding like hard work!)

I started a 365 type project on the 1st using my iPhone. There is a rather cool app I downloaded that keeps your 1-a-day photos together. Like your ideas Mel, look forward to seeing what you photographed.

I'm doing a 365 this year, taking just every day life photos. Not obsessing about getting the most spectacular pictures :) Your idea to take food photos made me think of the book "Everything I Ate"... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0811847721/qid=1119389768/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1

love this idea Mel. Cos of skl doing something every day is kinda tricky cos I wud end up spending too much time on it rather than work! Lol! really like the paper in the jar idea, it would work really well for scrapbook ideas when your mojo is low! xxxx

Rinda, I will, can't wait to hear your thoughts :-)

Rachel, I love the idea of including pics of your family - I do plan to self-portrait as part of Scrap Your Day, I must remember to include my The Doctor and The Children too!

RachelB, that app sounds fab and I am oficially jealous ;-)

Sharyn, that book looks horribly fascinating lol! I couldn't document *everything* I ate though, scary thought...

Abi, great idea - I shall set up a jar for every area of my life I think! ;-)

Helena, good luck with your own project :-)

Sounds like you're 'aiming' to be very busy this year,Mel.I couldn't do Project 365....I'm constantly forgetting to take important photos...let alone one a day!!
I'm going to do Document 2010....I'm a hoarder... tickets, receipts,menus,anything....so my envelope should be bulging by the time Shimelle posts each month.Want to do weekly challenges as well.
Love your recipes idea...going to pinch that...will definately aim to try more recipes.
And want to find a digi scrapbook class..have loved the pages I've seen on blogs...have got photoshop elements...just need a class [Shimelle????].

I wondered if you might shift over to Document 2010. I think I'm going to give that a whirl. 365 just isn't do-able this year (even before my camera tragedy.) Hope you manage to keep finding that natural light x

Ha! Great pics Mel! I am also a bit obsessive/perfectionist. I don't think I would dare take on Project 365 this year - I would go mad!
Talking of overlays or templates for "Photo a Day" projects - there are some on Sale at TwoPeas just now. Digi kit by Jen Martakis - $3.00. They look interesting...

Hi Mel! Project 365 is far too complicated for me - like scrappyjacky I'm not even sure where my camera is some days!! Mind you my OH bought me a new camera as a surprise crimbo pressie so maybe I should make more of an effort.
Good luck with your projects :)

I'm wishing you all the best of luck - this is not the sort of project for me ..... I'm like a dog with a bone with this sort of thing - I could never let it go and I know that would set me up for disaster! What if I missed a day??????? Heaven forbid!

Recipe idea is a great one - might work on that soon!

I am trying 365 this year for the first time - so far, so good! Posting on personal blog though :)

I recognise that jar! Tesco bargain?

And yes, Homer the fairy is back in his box! He went to hibernate for non-Christmas just last weekend :) I will let him know you were asking after him :)

oooh! i can't wait to see the food pictures as the year progresses!

as for my '365' project, i would say it's my No Clothes Challenge, which will certainly be a challenge for me, loving clothes as i do!

but i think it's more of a '330' project since i began the day after Thanksgiving; does that count? ;)

I'm doing the 365 this year--I just have to remember it's OK if I miss a day and not ditch the whole project 161 days into it (ummmm, not that I have done that....) I set up a separate blog for my photos.

I'm doing 365 again, but not expecting to "publish" every photo. I keep changing my mind, but right now I think I'll do a grid of 16-20 photos that I like from each month, so will have 12 pages at the end of the year. Still trying to decide if I want to try to get all the back photos from 2009 posted. Seems overwhelming, but I know I'd feel better if I did it.

Woa! 365 is a big commitment..bet you manage it, though! With the rest of us along for the ride of course. Though I've just read RachelB's comment about doing this with her iphone and it has got me thinking..
