On 21st January I went round to Clair's :-) She very kindly let me play with her sewing machine - I've been wanting to try sewing on paper for ages, but didn't want to splash out on even a simple machine till I'd had a chance to try the technique and be sure I'd like it. (I did like it, so I will definitely be splashing out at some point....!) She also did the stitching for me on a couple of scrapbook layouts (I was a bit nervous of doing it on an otherwise complete page till I've had a bit more practice); she advised me on a jewellery-making query; and she fed me bacon butties!! She is indeed the best kind of friend :-)
I did a spot of baking before going, so that I could contribute foodwise to our lunch. I made baked mini doughnuts with cinnamon sugar:
Ahem. I should confess that this was the second batch. It turns out that the 'grease the tin' step was rather crucial.....

I've never made doughnuts - they look cute and like they have come out of a well greased tin!
Good luck with the sewing - I'm looking forward to the results :-)
Sewing on paper is a great idea and I'm just putting on my coat to go round to Clair's for some of that fine hospitality.
Baked doughnuts, that sounds so much healthy than the normal fried type. So healthy that I think I may have to have a go at making them!
I'm loving my mini sewing machine. I still practice on scraps and off cuts before commiting to the actual LO, though!
I'm having a go at banana loaf later today for the 1st time.
Oooh, I love doughnuts. Your "eats" always look so appetising! I wish I could get my sewing amchine to sew on paper. It won't, so I do some handsewing; but that gives a completely different look. Let's have a look at what you did then!
i got a sewing machine from john lewis for £50.00 for my bday 2 years ago and it is brilliant. It does zigzag and a few other fancy stitches but for scrapbooking it is great and for fabric of course it is also fab. sounds like u had a fab time with clair........she is so cool.

Lovely donuts! I want some!! I am loving sewing on paper lately! I bought some digital stitches last night too - fab!
I need to make these donuts! :D I didn't know you could bake them.
How fun that you got to try your hand at stitching on paper! And I'm glad to hear that you liked it and want your own sewing machine now. My daughter found a great deal on a machine at our local thrift shop. We had it serviced and cleaned up and it's a great machine - especially for use with crafting.
The donuts look delicious!!!
I had no idea doughnuts could be made in the oven.
I like seeing stitching on paper but don't like the thought of changing a needle for the very rare occasion I use the machine to turn up trousers for my husband. I put sewing in the same category as housework.
The doughnuts look delicious.... daren't ask the calorie content though!
I used to sew on paper....until my machine went up in a puff of smoke....love the effect....will definately invest in a new one at some point.
Oh my, those doughnuts look lovely!

Those doughnuts look yummy. I will have to try baking some of those...
My machine is strictly for material at the moment, haven't attempted sewing on paper yet. Do you know what needle Clair used?
Love the look of those doughnuts - are you putting the recipe on your other blog?
PS I just saw the recipe, thanks :)
Those mini doughnuts look and sound very yummy! I've never tried making doughnuts before but we sure do enjoy eating them :)
Oh, what a good friend I am - when I can be bothered to read your blog. Ahem. (Sorry, been a wee bit busy myself this week!)
Glad you had such a good day, I had a fab time and the doughnuts were delicious. The Steve loved the two you left for him and says that you're welcome to call around anytime you like for more sewing lessons :)
Think I might put together a few tips and techniques for the blog since there's a few questions - and lots of answers!!!
What a great close up of the sewing machine, loving the look of those doughnuts too!!!!
