Day 24: Stockings

The Children always hang up stockings on Christmas Eve, though the stockings themselves have varied. The rule is that they can open their stocking presents QUIETLY whenever they wake up, but they don't disturb me and The Doctor till they can hear the radio in our room (usually about 7.30am). Now they can tell the time this is easier. Unfortunately I'm such a kid about Christmas that it has been known for me to wake up at 6am and have to lie there for ages till it's OK to wake The Doctor! Yep, that happened this year too!

For this badly-photographed page I used Crate Paper for the background, photographed The Children's stockings and cut round each, then attached with foam pads with a little peg at the top of each. The Elle's Studio number had the wording on it, how perfect was that? :-)

I know exactly what you mean about being excited xmas morning.....the first 2 years my kids weren't awake by 7....I went and woke them up!!! They most definately wouldn't appreciate that now....so me and OH open our stockings on our own.

I do it too! This year wasn't any different and I turned in bed a few times util DH said 'OK! I'm awake!' he loves it too though and it didn't take him long to check if Adam was awake!

I think we were up by 9, no reasons to get up earlier and sleeping in is nice :) when I was a kid, my sister usually woke me up before the sun had even started to rise, but mom would get up sometimes and wake us up if we we being lazy :p

Very clever page, Mel! Matt told us we could wake him up (we were all at church until after midnight, and then stayed up awhile when we got home), but we let him sleep in and didn't get started until 9:30 or so. It was a nice, relaxed start to the day. Very different when your kids are adults!

Where have I gone wrong? My 'kids' are now 23 and 19 and are still up around 6am Christmas morning! No wonder we are all shattered by tea time!

We're early risers too. I think 5.00am was the record a few years ago..this year we lasted until 7.30. I love the idea of photographing the stockings..very clever!

We had a lie in this year - for the first time in ages. It felt like bliss x

We were staying with my brother this year, and his 7 yo daughter woke up before my kids. I sent her down to rouse her cousins, so they could open presents together.

It's fun, isn't it? J still (apparently) believes in Santa, so the stocking etc was all done "properly" as usual. He's a very early waker, so we took pity on him and set our alarm for 7am. It was a bit of a struggle, but we recovered pretty quickly once J. arrived with his stocking full of stuff.
It was a great morning. He opened his "Santa Presents" over breakfast and then we all opened presents from each other, before the rest of the family arrived for lunch.
The rest were all opened in a big "Present Fest" after lunch was over. Noise and chaos!

Photographing the stockings was such a great idea Mel - I'm the horror of my family when it comes to waking early .... as a kid 1:30am was my best effort apparently!
